Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for educational collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA during a visit to their campus in February 2005.
Preliminary discussions were held between the President of KDEB, Dato' Haji Abd Karim Munisar and CMU representative, Mr. Allan Fisher, who was in Malaysia in October 2004. During his visit, Mr. Fisher visited Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL), one of KDEB's institution of higher learning. He was taken on a tour of both UNISEL's city and main campuses in Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya (the first sustainable city in Malaysia) respectively.
CMU will implement the collaboration with KDEB via iCarnegie Inc., a vehicle specially established for the purpose of identifying and implementing cooperation arrangements with foreign partners outside the United States of America. The implementation of the strategic collaboration is subject to:-
iCarnegie will work with KDEB in establishing a "University College" under the iCarnegie brand in Bestari Jaya. KDEB will allocate a 300-acre parcel of land for the construction of the campus.
The proposed iCarnegie University College will specialize in software engineering courses. iCarnegie will be responsible to ensure that the overall course syllabus and programmes are of the highest standard to be at par with world class universities.
