Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo's three-day visit to Sumatra, Indonesia is expected to boost business opportunities for Malaysians planning to invest in West Sumatra.
During the visit, 11 memoranda of understanding were signed by the State Government and West Sumatra's provincial Government, covering trade, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, electricity, infrastructure, education, human resources and construction materials.
One of the main joint ventures between Selangor and West Sumatra is a mini hydroelectric project at Sungai Gumanti in Solok worth RM50 million. It is a joint venture between Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB), Core International Limited, a subsidiary of Smart Meters Technologies Sdn Bhd, and the Madco Group of Indonesia.
KDEB expects to commence work on the hydroelectric dam soon and it is expected to be ready in 36 months.
